Blumenthal: Trump Firing Rosenstein Would Be a “Break the Glass Moment”

Sen. Richard Blumenthal said Monday that if President Donald Trump fired Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein it would be a “break the glass moment."

“Our democracy will be under attack,” the Connecticut Democrat said at a news conference alongside over 100 Yale Law students. “The president will be, in effect, obstructing justice.”

Trump and Rosenstein will meet Thursday, following a New York Times report that Rosenstein discussed working to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office, and after reports swirled Monday that Rosenstein might have been fired or offering his resignation (both appear to be on hold until Thursday).

Blumenthal, a graduate of Yale Law School, hosted students from the school to call for a delay in the confirmation hearing of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who is also a graduate from the institution.
