Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer announced Saturday that with Sen. John McCain’s passing, he would seek to rename the Senate’s oldest office building for the late Republican senator from Arizona.

“Nothing will overcome the loss of Senator McCain, but so that generations remember him I will be introducing a resolution to rename the Russell building after him,” the New York Democrat said in a statement.

The facility currently bears the name of the late Sen. Richard B. Russell, a segregationist Democrat from Georgia.
