The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has named Ty Matsdorf, currently its deputy executive director and director of strategic messaging, to lead its independent expenditure arm for 2016.  

“The DCCC is in a great position heading into 2016, and having a strong Independent Expenditure will be critical to House Democrats’ success,” DCCC Executive Director Kelly Ward said in a Friday evening release.  

Democrats currently suffer from a 30-seat deficit in the House and are hoping to minimize their losses in 2016.  

Matsdorf, who has worked on five Senate campaigns, as well as President Barack Obama’s re-election, is currently on leave as senior vice president of The Messina Group. He’s previously directed the war room at American Bridge and worked as campaigns and communications director for Senate Majority PAC .  

As Matsdorf told Roll Call in 2009 , it was former Sen. Max Baucus who inspired the native Oregonian to move from Montana, where he’d spent a lot of time, to Washington, D.C. He was hired as Baucus’ deputy press secretary in 2006.
