Former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli is the new president for the Senate Conservatives Fund, the group announced Wednesday. “Ken Cuccinelli is the perfect person to continue and expand on what Jim DeMint started with SCF,” said Matt Hoskins, the group’s executive director, in an email to members.

Long a thorn in the side of the Republican establishment, the SCF has been one of the most vocal groups in taking on GOP incumbents, though their record of success on that front has been mixed. In a video introducing himself to the group, Cuccinelli said that was not going to change under his tenure.

“That means continuing to take on Republican incumbents who lost their way,” he said. “Standing up to the Washington establishment isn’t easy, but it’s the right thing to do.”

Cuccinelli was the Republican nominee for governor of Virginia last year. He lost to now-Gov. Terry McAuliffe.
