Transplanted South Carolinians will have the opportunity Wednesday to show their support for those affected by the senseless murders at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church courtesy of a District of Columbia benefit being spearheaded by Palmetto State pols.  

Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., and Rep. James E. Clyburn, D-S.C., are, per an organizer, expected to “say a few words of healing and remembrance” at a fundraiser being co-hosted by the South Carolina Business Council and the South Carolina State Society from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 101 Constitution Ave. NW. Self-styled white supremacist Dylann Roof was arrested on June 18 following the fatal shooting of nine members of the Emanuel AME congregation during Bible study.  

“The South Carolina community in D.C. really hasn’t had a chance to grieve,” an event planner told HOH of the charitable endeavor.  

In addition to the speeches from elected officials, Rev. William Lamar, pastor of Metropolitan AME Church in Washington, is scheduled to provide spiritual guidance. A choir will then close out the service with inspirational hymns.  

No need to RSVP or break out your wallet; while donations will gladly be accepted, our tipster said the plan is to distribute materials at the event directing attendees to pre-existing memorial funds and relief efforts already associated with the historic house of worship.
