Commission presents recommendations on women’s history museum

The American Museum of Women’s History Congressional Commission will present its official recommendations to Congress at 4:30 p.m. in the Capitol room H-137.

Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, D-N.Y., who introduced legislation establishing the commission, is slated to attend the presentation. The commission was established in 2014 to independently study the potential for a national women’s history museum in Washington.

Orientation schedule

From 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., incoming freshmen will have briefings in the Capitol Visitor Center Auditorium. Before the closed briefings, staff will escort photographers and videographers into the room for shots of the members-elect preparing for the program.

After today, orientation is on hiatus for Thanksgiving break and will continue on Tuesday, Nov. 29.

Sanders’ campaign press secretary talks

The Women’s Congressional Staff Association is hosting a bipartisan discussion with Symone Sanders, the former national press secretary for Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign. She will discuss her career path, work-life balance and breaking barriers at 6:30 p.m. in the Democratic Caucus Room, 1416 Longworth House Office Building. Elizabeth-Burton Jones, press secretary to Rep. Scott Rigell, R-Va., will moderate the discussion.

Celebrate National Bison Day

The annual National Bison Day on Capitol Hill reception is today to celebrate America’s national mammal. The Wildlife Conservation Society hosts the event and the national mammal ambassador Kristin Bauer, an actress in HBO’s “True Blood,” is slated to attend. The event is 5 p.m. – 6:30 in 325 Russel Senate Building.

What’s that buzz on the Hill?

Astronaut Buzz Aldrin was on Capitol Hill on Tuesday for a ceremony in which Rep. Sam Johnson, R-Texas, was honored with a room named after him.

NFL players visit Ellison

Minnesota Democrat Keith Ellison welcomed football players in his office on Tuesday for a discussion on police relations and criminal justice.
