John Patrick Yob, a campaign strategist working on Kentucky Republican Rand Paul’s presidential bid, announced Friday via social media that he was punched in the face by Rich Beeson, deputy campaign manager for Sen. Marco Rubio, and that he was formally pressing charges.  

Per media reports , the ideological scrap took place Thursday evening at Horn’s Gaslight Bar & Restaurant on Mackinac Island. Yob laid out his version of events on Facebook:

In an email provided to HOH, Yob alerted Rubio campaign manager Terry Sullivan to the jarring incident just after midnight — tagging the rude awakening, “Hey man you better wake up. Beeson punched me in the face. Cops involved.”  

Sullivan cracks wise at first, but assumes a more serious tone seven hours later after figuring out Yob wasn’t playing around.  

Yob reiterates the gravity of the situation by assuring Sullivan that this is no laughing matter.  

The video, released Friday , appears to show more of an open-handed slap than a punch.  

Nonetheless, Yob’s hoping justice will swiftly follow.  

“I appreciate Terry Sullivan’s change of heart this morning on the assault by his staff member and it is understandable that he would have initially thought that this was too crazy to actually be true. The Rubio campaign is not to blame. Today I hope that he and Senator Rubio will take action on this matter as the state police investigate,” Yob shared with HOH.  

Emails sent to Sullivan and the Rubio campaign seeking comment about the alleged altercation were not immediately returned.  

One purported witness claims Beeson’s sucker punch has already gotten him banned from Horn’s. Mackinac Island authorities told local media a formal complaint has been filed but stopped short of acknowledging any type of formal investigation is underway.
