National Section 527 Organizations Raise Over $133 Million
New financial reports from national political organizations, organized under Section 527 of the I.R.S. code, have brought the total of money raised last year to over $133 million, an increase of over $50 million from new reports filed in the last few days.
The 488 national Section 527 organizations which impact indirectly on federal elections raised $133,007,637 in 2013.
The top funds included the Republican Governors Association that raised $50,602,903 in the last year. The top donors were Paul Singer $1,250,000; David Koch $1,250,000; Sheldon Adelson $1,020,000; and $1 million each from the late Bob Perry, Harold Simmons’ Contran Corp., and Leslie Wexler.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is the new chairman. Large donors in 2013 from New Jersey include the New Jersey Laborers PAC Non-Federal Account $300,000; Sanofi-Aventis US Inc. $256,000; Premio Foods Inc. $115,000; Vern Hill $100,000; Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp. $110,000; Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp. $100,000; Bayonne Medical Center $100,000; O’Toole Fernandez Weiner Van Lieu $100,000; Conti Group $80,000; Covanta Energy Corp. $50,000; Novo Nordisk Inc. $50,000; Erickson Living Management $25,000.
The Democratic Governors Association raised $25,896,177 for the year. The top donors were the Int’l Assn. of Fire Fighters $400,000; the American Federation of State County & Municipal Employees $375,000; the United Assn.of the Plumbing & Pipefitting Union $350,000; PhRMA $325,000; and Aetna Inc. $300,000.
Last year, Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley was chairman. Large donors from New Jersey included United Association Political Education Committee $350,000; the Machinists Non-Partisan Political league $150,000; Competitive Power Ventures Holdings LLC $110,000; United Therapeutics Corp. $100,000; Retail Services & Systems Inc. $55,000; Hargrove Inc. $45,000; Tecore Inc. $35,000.
For the year the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) raised $17,222,824 for the year. The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee raised $5,429,406 for the year.
