House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Friday said Speaker John A. Boehner’s resignation announcement “is a stark indication of the disarray of the House Republicans,” before pivoting to Pope Francis’ Thursday address to lawmakers and the need to avoid a government shutdown next week.

Boehner: 'McCarthy Would Make an Excellent Speaker'

“Listen, I’m not going to be here to vote on the next speaker, but that’s up to the members,” Boehner said. “But having said that, I think that Kevin McCarthy would make an excellent speaker.”
