Following an earlier news conference where she slammed House Republicans’ latest push for a three-week continuing resolution to fund the Department of Homeland Security, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi echoed her earlier remarks on the House floor while asking Speaker John A. Boehner to bring up a Senate-passed “clean” DHS funding bill for a vote.
“Give us a vote, Mr. Speaker. Give us a vote,” Pelosi said. “I would just like to ask my colleagues who have been advocating for a shutdown, or take us to the brink of a shutdown over and over again, if they would like to live without being paid as members of Congress…[The federal workforce doesn't] have trust funds. That may come as a surprise to you. Perhaps you do and maybe that’s why you don’t think living — not getting a paycheck is a big deal.”
