A 2014 Senate report on the U.S. use of torture during the War on Terror reemerged Tuesday during a tense exchange between Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and CIA Director John O. Brennan, when Wyden pressed Brennan to apologize for spying on the Senate Intelligence Committee’s computers during its investigation of the CIA.

Senate Adopts Amendment Banning Torture

In a wide 78-21 vote, the Senate adopted the amendment as it continued consideration of the annual defense authorization legislation. Thirty-two Republicans joined all Democrats to approve the proposal.

McConnell Plans to Package Cybersecurity Bill With NDAA 

Reacting to the recent security breach at the Office of Personnel Management, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday he would attach cybersecurity legislation to the National Defense Authorization Act.

“I think what Congress can do, as I suggested earlier, is offer the bipartisan cybersecurity bill that came out of the Intelligence Committee 14-1 on the defense authorization act,” McConnell said. “It might or might not deal with every aspect of what apparently happened a few days ago, but Congress is going to act on cybersecurity, on this bill in the very near future."

In rebutting comments by former CIA Director and retired Gen. David Petraeus that the U.S. is “probably losing” in Iraq, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Thursday said Petraeus incorrectly asserted the number of Iraqi troops trained during his time overseeing the war in Iraq. Pelosi’s comments come more than three weeks since Islamic State fighters captured the city of Ramadi and as an international coalition met earlier this week in Paris to discuss how to counter the Islamic State terror group.

Boehner 'Not Aware' of Israel Leaking Intel to Derail Iran Talks

At a news conference Tuesday morning, Speaker John A. Boehner said he was “baffled” by a Wall Street Journal report that Israel spied on U.S.-Iranian negotiations and leaked intelligence to members of Congress with the intent of derailing the talks.
