Former Sen. Kay Hagan, D-N.C., is joining Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld as a senior policy consultant. She will work in the firm’s public law and policy practice in Washington, focusing on the health and financial services sectors, according to the firm’s release. Hagan still has one year remaining in her two-year ban on lobbying Congress, but she is able to advocate to the Obama administration and advise clients.
“Akin Gump is not only home to Washington’s preeminent public law and policy group, but also boasts top-tier teams in industries that are of great importance to me, including health care, banking and more,” Hagan said in a statement released Monday. “Coming here feels like a very natural fit, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with such an established and well-regarded team.”
