DCCC Shifts Resources, Going After Mary Bono Mack

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has begun shifting advertising dollars and is now targeting a California Congresswoman not originally included in its television reservations while canceling buys in two districts — one each in Ohio and North Carolina.

The DCCC is set to launch its first independent expenditure advertisement against Rep. Mary Bono Mack (R-Calif.), but has pulled a week of advertising it had reserved in the districts of Reps. Larry Kissell (D-N.C.) and Michael Turner (R-Ohio). The committee won’t be running any ads in those districts during the week of Oct. 2-8.

The California spot comes on the heels of an automated poll from Democratic firm Public Policy Polling that showed physician Raul Ruiz (D) within 3 points of Bono Mack. The spot hits the airwaves tomorrow behind a $126,000 buy and runs through Oct. 1, according to a source with knowledge of the buy.

“Some politicians are made for Washington,” the ad’s announcer says. “And the way she looks after special interests, politician Mary Bono Mack fits right in.”

California’s 36th district is one of several that Democrats are hoping to pick up in the Golden State this year.
