Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey has endorsed the primary challenger of incumbent Rep. Michael Capuano.
Healey tweeted her support for Ayanna Pressley in Massachusetts’ 7th District. She is the first woman of color elected to the Boston City Council,
Healey said that she worked with Pressley before she ran for attorney general and that Pressley was one of the few people to endorse Healey in her race.
Healey is the first openly LGBT state attorney general in the country.
“Ayanna stood by me and supported me in my first campaign, at a time very few elected leaders were willing to take a chance on an outsider candidate like me,” she said.
Long before I ever thought of running for office, @AyannaPressley and I worked together on issues that strike at the core of who we are as a city and a state and reflect the progress we still need to make. #mapoli— Maura Healey (@maura_healey) July 30, 2018

After House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley lost his primary in New York’s 14th District last month to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, left wing groups are targeting Capuano, a 10-term incumbent.
Massachusetts’ 7th District is consistently Democratic so the winner of the primary will likely be the winner of the general.
Pressley thanked Healey in a statement.
“Maura is a trailblazer who, since she took office more than three years ago, has been on the front lines, fighting on behalf of the people of Massachusetts on a number of critical issues, from predatory lending practices and gun control to environmental threats and efforts to undermine reproductive freedom,” Pressley said.
