Sea Change for Taste of America?

Call us crazy, but this could be the most delicious — and nautical — Roll Call Taste of America yet.

Nearly half of the regional showdowns happening in Round Two (voting wraps Friday) involve a seafood component.

And, in many cases, said underwater spoils are leading their earth-bound opponents. Granted, there’s still a few weeks to go before the final spread takes center stage just ahead of the 54th Annual Roll Call Congressional Baseball Game .

But consider the matchups: Alaskan king crab legs (neck-and-neck with New Mexican frijoles), Maine lobster rolls (trouncing New Hampshire pumpkin pie), Maryland crab cakes (schooling District half-smokes), Connecticut New Haven-style pizza (The caterer better not skimp on the clams! Otherwise Garden Staters might have a valid case for a recount, assuming blueberry cobbler gets jettisoned under false pretenses.), Florida stone crab claws (taking the fight to U.S. Virgin Islands jerk chicken), South Carolina shrimp and grits (struggling with Memphis-style barbecue) and Arkansas fried catfish (falling behind Florida Key lime pie)?

The tension is so thick, you could cut it with a knife.
