At any given time there are always some members of the House of Representatives who find themselves in the need of having to pay for attorneys and legal services. In some instances, a member may have been dealing with the House Office of Congressional Ethics or the House Ethics Committee, such as Reps. Andrews, Bachmann, Bishop, Grimm, McMorris Rodgers, Mullin, Owens, and Schock.  

In the first quarter of this year, here are some of the large payments.  

The campaign committee of Rep. John Dingell , D-Mich., paid $65,000 to Perkins Coie for legal and compliance services.  

The campaign committees of Rep. Michelle Bachmann , R-Minn., paid $71,510 for legal services during the first quarter of 2014. Her House campaign committee paid $10,000 to Patton Boggs, and $43,310 to Williams & Connolly for prior debt. Bachmann’s presidential committee paid $17,000 to Briggs and Morgan; $10,000 to Patton Boggs; and $8,200 to Frank Berman for legal services debt.  

The campaign committee of Rep. Bill Owens , D-N.Y., paid $53,094 for legal services, including $31,687 to Perkins Coie, and $21,407 to Vinson and Elkins LLP.  

The campaign committee of Rep. Michael Grimm , R-N.Y., paid $50,000 to Patton Boggs. Grimm also owes Patton Boggs $417,478 for legal services.  

The campaign committee of Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers , R-Wash., paid $42,325 to McGuire Woods LLP.  

The campaign committee of Rep. Robert Andrews , D-N.J., paid $37,942 in legal fees, including $$25,300 to Martin & Gitner PLLC, $6,922 to Cooper Levenson April Niedelman & Wagenheim, and $5,720 to Brand Law Group.  

The campaign committee of Joe Garcia , D-Fla., paid $30,000 to Marcus & Marcus LLC.  

The campaign committee of Chaka Fattah , D-Pa., paid $27,682 for legal fees, including $17,682 to Ross Legal Practice and $10,000 to Weaver & Associates.  

The campaign committee of Rep. Markwayne Mullin , R-Okla., paid $24,906 to Wiley Rein LLP.  

The leadership PAC of Rep. Aaron Schock , R-Ill., paid $20,493 to Covington & Burling.  

The campaign committee of Rep. Judy Chu , D-Calif., paid $14,140 to Miller & Chevalier for legal fees.  

The campaign committee of Rep. Rick Larsen , D-Wash., paid $12,330 to Perkins & Coie.  

The leadership PAC of Rep. Peter King , R-N.Y., paid $12,215 to Bowditch & Dewey LLP.  

The campaign committee of Rep. Nydia Velazquez , D-N.Y., paid $12,000 to Martin Connor for legal services.  

The campaign committee of Rep. Kerry Bentivolio , R-Mich., paid $12,000 to Foley Lardner.  

The campaign committee of Rep. Michael Turner , R-Ohio, paid $11,132 to Freund, Freeze & Arnold for legal services.  

The campaign committee of Rep. Tim Bishop , D-N.Y., paid $10,000 to Perkins Coie.  

The campaign committee of Rep. Vance McAllister,  R-La., paid $10,000 to K&L Gates.  

The campaign committees of Rep. Robert Hurt , R-Va., Randy Forbes , R-Va., Scott Rigell , R-Va., Morgan Griffiths , R-Va., each paid $10,000 to Jones Day for legal services.  

The campaign committee of Rep. Sam Johnson , R-Texas, paid $9,240 to McKenna Long & Aldridge.  

The campaign committee of Rep. Michael Pompeo , R-Kan., paid $8,750 to Foley & Lardner.  

The campaign committee of Rep. Jose Serrano , D-N.Y., paid $8,500 for legal services, including $7,500 to Stroock Stroock & Lavan LLP, and $1,000 to Alan Goldstein.
