Senate Democratic leaders are discussing the possibility of adding Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., to their ranks, a source familiar with the conversations confirmed late Wednesday.  

The move would be the most significant change to Democratic leadership teams in either chamber, which are expected to otherwise be unchanged despite the historic drubbing at the polls on Election Day.  

On a conference call with liberal supporters just before the election, she received high praise from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, R-Nev.  

“This woman has changed the Senate,” Reid said. “No one has been more change oriented than Elizabeth Warren,” Reid continued. “This woman was seen as a progressive. She can go any place and campaign. She’s been to Kentucky many times. She goes every place because she’s accepted — because her message is to the people of this country. She understands.”  

“She’s never stopped telling people how important it is to continue — to continue fighting for fairness and equality.”  

Warren has carved out her own populist wing of the party since defeating then Sen. Scott Brown in 2012, and has proven to be both a prodigious fundraiser and a legislative force despite being relatively junior in seniority.  

She also came up in the South Dakota Senate race when Democratic candidate Rick Weiland pushed to recruit her for leader  and vowed to oppose Reid. Others have sought to draft her to run for president, so far without success.  

Warren rose to prominence after the financial crisis, pushing to create the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau as part of the Wall Street reform law. Warren was tapped by President Barack Obama to help start up the agency, but she wasn’t appointed to actually run it.  

While Warren has energized the progressive wing of Senate Democrats, she also has GOP admirers too . She has worked with Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla. on an effort to help keep veterans from falling victim to scam artists, and with Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., on the issue of transparency when the federal government’s various enforcement agencies settle cases.
