Updated 5:22 p.m. | Andrew Walker Davis, former senior policy adviser for Rep. Daniel Lipinski, will be remembered Friday in a memorial service in West Hartford, Connecticut.

Davis, 29, who died on Sunday after a two-year battle with cancer, worked for Lipinski for two years, most recently on transportation and infrastructure issues. He left the Hill in 2016 to work as an associate at the government relations firm, Chambers, Conlon and Hartwell.

“Andrew was a great employee and a terrific guy who I very much enjoyed having on my staff. Very smart and analytical, he helped me achieve a number of legislative victories, especially on the FAST Act surface transportation bill,” Lipinski said in a statement. 

The Illinois Democrat added, “He worked hard, never shied from long hours or tough challenges, and he made it possible for me to be an effective legislator. He was a gracious person, a joy to be around, and a true family man.  I am very saddened by his passing, and my staff and I will greatly miss him.”

Davis was an avid Washington Nationals and New England Patriots fan and a politics buff. He could recite all the names of the presidents in chronological order and also was a fan of sports trivia, according to his obituary in the Hartford Courant.

His family has asked those attending Friday’s memorial service to wear red, his favorite color, or Patriots colors.

Davis was born in Hartford, Connecticut, and lived in Silver Spring, Maryland, with his wife Caitlin O’Donnell Davis and their three-year-old son, Alden Stone Davis. 

“Not only was Andrew a devoted staffer and colleague, he was also someone who I valued as a good friend.  Despite whatever we might be working on, he kept a positive attitude, refreshing us all with his humor and wit, never short of a funny rejoinder about some Member’s floor comments,” Lipinski’s chief of staff, Eric Lausten, said in a statement.

Davis graduated from Union College and Georgetown Law School.
