California Democratic Rep. Doris Matsui is being released from a Washington hospital Friday after sustaining injuries in a car accident three days earlier, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Matsui, 72, incurred internal bleeding and bruised ribs in the crash, and underwent surgery to stop the bleeding in her abdomen, the newspaper said.

The congresswoman was a back-seat passenger in a car that was struck by another, according to the Times. She was being driven from her Washington residence to Dulles International Airport to fly to her home in Sacramento.

A spokeswoman for Matsui did not immediately return a request for comment.
