In an interview with 106.5’s Midday Mobile talk show on Friday, Jones criticized the amount of money being spent trying to influence his vote, according to Yellowhammer News.
“I see the TV ads and the millions of dollars being spent like a political campaign,” he said. “We’re supposed to have an independent judiciary, that’s why they’re there for life.”
His office is gathering information on Kavanaugh’s record as a judge and his work in George W. Bush’s administration, Jones said.
“Frankly I think we might be rushing this too much because of the significant number of records, but that’s not my call,” he said.
Jones said he would like to have his meeting with President Donald Trump’s pick for the Supreme Court after his Judiciary hearing because he does not want it to be a photo op.
“It needs to be a substantive meeting on questions that I want to ask him on a variety of issues,” he said.
The Alabama Democrat said he would like the meeting to be after the hearing because some questions might be answered in the hearing.
“I may need a follow-up,” he said. “I’d like to be able to have that hearing, meet with him, and then at that point, try to do whatever I need to do to make my decision.”
