Thursday saw some cute new members of the press corps and congressional staff — the children who took over the Capitol during Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.

The visitors offered moments of levity during leadership news conferences in an otherwise busy and heated week on Capitol Hill. 

In nearby Alexandria, Va., it was a somber Wednesday morning on the baseball field where the GOP members practice for the annual Congressional Baseball Game. They took the field for the first time since the shooting last June that left Majority Whip Steve Scalise seriously injured and several others wounded.
