Colorado Republican Rep. Doug Lamborn is facing a primary challenge from a Republican state senator.

Owen Hill told Colorado Politics magazine that his decision was based on the idea that the state needs a new voice, the Washington Examiner reported.

“We are not getting the representation we need, we are not getting the leadership we need, and so more and more people are saying we need a different option,” Hill said.

Lamborn faced a primary challenge last year from Calandra Vargas, an aide in the state House, who came within 18 votes of getting Lamborn off the primary ballot according to Colorado Politics. But Lamborn won the primary easily with 68 percent of the vote.

He went on to defeat Wendy Plowright, the state’s first transgender candidate to run for the House, by 31 points in November.
