The Minnesota tradition of eating “hotdish” and listening to Al Franken’s jokes is here again.
Franken is hosting the seventh annual Minnesota Congressional Delegation Hotdish Competition, and will be joined by Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Reps. Collin C. Peterson, Betty McCollum, Keith Ellison, Tim Walz, Rick Nolan, Erik Paulsen, Tom Emmer and Jason Lewis.
Walz took home the victory last year with his “Turkey Taco Hotdish” and also holds the record for the most victories with three.
The competition is at 11:30 a.m. today in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, Room 430. Watch for HOH’s coverage and twitter videos via @AlexGangitano.
Taste some West Virginia
The West Virginia State Society is hosting the state’s congressional reception today and Sens. Joe Manchin, Shelley Moore Capito and Reps. David McKinley, Alex Mooney and Evan Jenkins are expected to attend. Chico Dairy is donating pepperoni rolls and other sponsors include Marshall University, West Virginia University, Merrill Lynch, and Pierpont Community and Technical College. 6 to 8 p.m. in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, Room G-50.
Alberto Martinez is joining Targeted Victory as executive vice president and will lead its public affairs practice. He previously was chief of staff and senior adviser to Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla.
Hope Goins has been promoted to minority staff director for the House Homeland Security Committee.
Lincoln was in town
Did you spot President Abraham Lincoln walking around the Capitol on Tuesday? That was Jim Sayre, Kentucky Chautauqua’s Abraham Lincoln presenter, who was with the Kentucky Humanities Council to meet with members for Humanities on the Hill day.
Celebrate baseball on the Hill
The Congressional Baseball Caucus’ reception is at the Library of Congress’ Thomas Jefferson Building today. It is hosted by co-chairmen Roger Williams, R-Texas, and Mike Doyle, D-Pa., and will feature some historic baseball artifacts. The event is at 6 p.m. in the members room and you can RSVP via email@example.com.
It’s International Women’s Day
Two major rallies to look out for today:
“Resist Trump. Kill the Gag” at noon in Lafayette Park after a march from Freedom Plaza to the White House at 11:30 a.m.. It’s organized by NARAL Pro-Choice America, in addition to dozens of other groups.
#WomenWorkersRising in front of the Labor Department at 3:30 p.m. the rally is hosted by Good Jobs Nation, among other groups. Reps. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., and Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., are expected to speak.
