Feinstein Recovering After Pacemaker Surgery
She’ll miss Day 2 of Sessions’ confirmation hearing, Whitehouse serves as Judiciary ranking member
California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein had a pacemaker installed at George Washington University Hospital on Tuesday evening and is resting at home on Wednesday.
The senator is absent from Sen. Jeff Sessions’ confirmation hearing for attorney general but plans on working from home all day. She questioned Sessions on the first day of the hearing on Tuesday.

At 83 years old, Feinstein is the oldest member of the Senate and the ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Rhode Island Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse is serving as the committee’s ranking member.
The surgery was routine, non-emergency and voluntary, according to a news release, and took 90 minutes.
It “went smoothly and she will return to a full schedule very soon,” the release said.
“The decision to install the pacemaker was made after consulting with her doctor and was undertaken out of an abundance of caution,” it concluded.
