Cubs Win! Cubs Win! Kirk and Durbin Will Get Beer
Illinois senators look forward to Ohio colleagues paying off World Series bets
In a nail-biting World Series Game 7 on Wednesday, the Chicago Cubs beat the Cleveland Indians, 8-7, and Illinois Sens. Mark S. Kirk and Richard J. Durbinare due some beer.
The friendly wagers on the series, which were made along party lines, had beer on the table. Both bets will most likely be repaid after Congress returns after the election.
Illinois’ Kirk taunted Ohio Republican Sen. Rob Portman over their bet and looked forward to the payoff. Portman wagered that if the Cubs won, he owed Kirk a case of Great Lakes Oktoberfest beer from Cleveland’s Great Lakes Brewing Company.
Can’t wait to enjoy a @GLBC_Cleveland beer from @senrobportman soon. #GoCubsGo #WorldSeries #FlyTheW

Durbin was still celebrating the win this morning.
Congrats to Joe Maddon, the best team in baseball, and a Cubs organization that finally put the goat out to pasture.

Ohio Democrat Sherrod Brown bet Durbin that if the Cubs won, he would bring beer from Cleveland’s Platform Brewing Company to Durbin.
Tough loss for the @Indians last night but we’re proud of our team & the incredible year they had. They’ll be back next year! #RallyTogether
