Melania Mocked for ‘Copy and Paste’ Speech

She may have rickrolled us, too

Melania Trump made the headlines on the first night of the Republican National Convention. But by morning, they had grown snarky.

It didn’t take long before the Twitterverse lit up with similarities between Donald Trump’s wife speech  Monday and the one Michele Obama gave to the Democratic National Convention in 2008.

Paul Manafort, Trump’s campaign chairman, went on CNN Tuesday morning to denounce the claims that the speech was lifted.

“These were common words and values that she cares about her family,” Manafort said.

Others didn’t see it that way, mocking her on #FamousMelaniaTrumpQuotes.

Harry Shearer, the voice of the iconic “Simpsons” characters Mr. Burns and Ned Flanders, riffed on the speech.

Another line in the speech drew comparisons to an ’80s pop hit.

This is almost word-for-word from Rick Astley’s 1987 song “Never Gonna Give You Up.”

“Never gonna give you up/Never gonna let you/Never gonna run around and desert you,” Astley implores.

It makes us wonder in this bizarre campaign season  if we were also being rickrolled.
