Democrat Jacky Rosen leads Republican Danny Tarkanian by 6 points, just outside the margin of error, in a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee poll of Nevada’s 3rd District released Wednesday.

Incumbent GOP Rep. Joe Heck is vacating the southern Nevada seat to run for the Senate , leaving it a top Democratic target this year. President Barack Obama carried the district in 2008 and again more narrowly in 2012.

In the survey of 341 likely general election voters reached by live and robo phone calls, 40 percent chose Rosen, 34 percent chose Tarkanian and 26 percent were undecided. The poll was conducted June 18-19 and has a margin of error of 5.3 percentage points.

Hillary Clinton led Donald Trump 43 to 35 percent in the swing district.

Rosen, the leader of a Henderson synagogue, was recruited to run by Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid , and she won the Democratic primary this month with 62 percent of the vote.

Tarkanian is a frequent candidate who likely enjoys high name identification as the son of the late University of Nevada, Las Vegas basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian. He defeated the establishment-backed Michael Roberson by 8 points in the June 14 Republican primary.

Tarkanian ended the pre-primary reporting period with $65,000. Rosen ended the same period with $129,000.

“Tarkanian is out of touch, scandal-ridden, and the worst kind of Trump lemming,” the DCCC’s Barb Solish said in a statement. “This poll shows that no matter how much money he spends or how many people know his last name, Southern Nevadans will reject perennial candidate Danny Tarkanian in November — again.”

The National Republican Congressional Committee blasted the poll.

“Democrats are desperate to prop up their fallback candidate Jacky Rosen, who Harry Reid personally recruited after virtually every other legitimate candidate declined to run,” NRCC spokesman Zach Hunter said in a statement.
