House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Tuesday she is endorsing Hillary Clinton, hours after The Associated Press concluded that Clinton had enough delegates to clinch the Democratic nomination.  

“I’m a voter in California and I have voted for Hillary Clinton for president of the United States and I’m proud to endorse her for that position,” Pelosi said Tuesday on “Good Morning America.”   

Pelosi had hinted for months that she supported Clinton but had stopped short of giving her full endorsement.

During the interview, Pelosi also nodded to challenger Bernie Sanders, who has criticized media outlets for calling the race after Clinton collected enough delegates to seal the nomination, and before the July convention.  

Pelosi said, “it’s not over until it’s over,” and that the “matter should be determined by the voters.”

Democrats are set to vote in six states Tuesday, including the delegate-heavy state of California, where Sanders has spent millions campaigning in recent weeks. Clinton reached the 2,383 delegates required to become the presumptive nominee after primary votes were counted in Puerto Rico Monday. But Sanders has yet to concede, in spite of growing pressure from Democratic Party leaders. He is banking that he will win enough votes in California to support his argument that the nomination should be decided at the convention.

Pelosi addressed Sanders’ position in a press release issued shortly after her “Good Morning America” appearance.  

“I congratulate and thank Senator Bernie Sanders for the great invigoration he is bringing to the presidential primary, and welcome the political and intellectual participation of his supporters to advance our shared fight for progress for the American people,” she said.  

She also expanded on her praise for Clinton.  

“Throughout her career, Secretary Clinton has demonstrated her commitment to children, to working families and to a brighter future for America,” she said. “In this campaign, we have seen her vision, her knowledge, her ability, indeed her stamina, to get the job done for the American people.”
