Bernie Sanders Roots for Golden State Comeback
In California, Sanders draws inspiration from NBA's Warriors epic rally
Bernie Sanders is hoping comebacks are contagious.
The long shot Democratic presidential candidate took a break from campaigning for California’s June 7 primary on Monday night to root for the Golden State Warriors in Oakland as they completed their own improbable run in the NBA Western Conference finals.
As the team clinched a 96-88 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 7 of the series, Sanders took to Twitter to make sure that the symbolism wasn’t lost on anyone.
“I like comebacks,” he tweeted.
Last week, Golden State was down three games to one. Tonight, they finished off a great comeback in California. I like comebacks.

Sanders is dumping huge amounts of resources into his campaign for California’s primary against front-runner Hillary Clinton, a race considered crucial to the Vermont senator’s chances of claiming the Democratic presidential nomination. Though, according to most forecasts, he would have to win by a gigantic margin for the win to matter and most polls show that the odds aren’t in his favor.

FiveThirtyEight forecasted Monday that Clinton had a 96 percent chance of winning the California primary. And the latest RealClearPolitics average shows Clinton up by 8 percentage points in the state. But there was a recent glimmer of hope for Sanders. A Public Policy Institute of California poll last week showed Sanders and Clinton were locked in a virtual dead heat .

Sanders Still Sees Path to Nomination

There’s nothing like a dramatic sporting event to show that sometimes numbers don’t tell the full story, or at least that’s what the Sanders campaign would like to suggest .
A campaign spokesman pointed out before the game that when the Warriors were down 3-1 and facing elimination in the series, experts had also said it was mathematically impossible for them to win.

But not all associations for Sanders were as positive during the game: He arrived at halftime and took a seat next to actor and supporter Danny Glover , who is still waiting for his comeback — his last major box office hit was Lethal Weapon 2 in 1989.
