Florida Senate candidate Carlos Beruff has been called  “the little Trump of Florida” and has endorsed the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, but he is also trying to distance himself from the billionaire real estate mogul.

In an interview with Univision’s Miami affiliate on Sunday, Beruff, a Republican businessman running for Sen. Marco Rubio’s open seat, pushed back on the comparison , according to the Tampa Bay Times

“I suppose it’s because we are both business people,” he said. “But I’m not like him. He’s unique.”

Beruff has been criticized for calling for a ban  on travel from all Middle Eastern countries except Israel, not unlike Trump’s ban on Muslims entering the United States.

In addition, he came under fire for calling President Barack Obama “an animal. ”

But the Beruff campaign pushed back against the Tampa Bay Times, noting that Beruff said in an English-language interview that “there’s only one Donald Trump, as we know.”
