The National Republican Congressional Committee named 11 additional Republican candidates to the first tier of its “Young Guns” program Thursday.  

“These 11 candidates have demonstrated they have the skills and experience needed to help strengthen our country and right the wrongs of the Obama administration,” NRCC Chairman Greg Walden, R-Ore., said in a statement provided first to Roll Call. “I am confident these candidates will work hard and run tough and effective campaigns in 2016.”  

The NRCC announced the first of these “On the Radar” candidates in November. That crop included a range of hopefuls, from repeat candidate Stewart Mills, who ran in Minnesota’s 8th District in 2014, and first-time congressional candidate Pam Galloway, who’s running in Indiana’s 3rd District. The program includes Republicans running against each other in the same district.  

Candidates can move up to “Contenders,” and finally, to the highest level in the three-level program, “Young Guns.” Candidates in the program receive “the tools they need to run successful, winning campaigns,” the NRCC said.  

“The program requires its candidates to work towards specific goals and meet benchmarks throughout the year to ensure their campaigns remain competitive, well-funded and communicative within their districts,” according to the NRCC.
