Jesus Lady Challenges Speaker Boehner to Step Up
Spiritual warrior Rita Warren can no longer hold her tongue about a perceived brush-off by Speaker John A. Boehner.
The career demonstrator, who displays her life-sized statue of Jesus Christ at the Capitol each and every week, provided HOH with an open letter demanding the Ohio Republican once and for all address her plan to have actor Robert Powell recite the sermon on the mount scene from “Jesus of Nazareth” for congressional lawmakers.
“All I need is ten minutes of your time. … We know that you have a big job and we pray for you,” she pleads in an impassioned missive.
Warren does a little name dropping in a separate dispatch, citing a half-dozen pols — some long gone, some seemingly non-existent — purportedly working behind the scenes to help further her cause.
Several of the House Republicans named in Warren’s letter told HOH they are familiar with her, but stopped short of signing on as full-fledged supporters of any concerted lobbying effort.
“As a Christian, Congressman Weber agrees with Mrs. Warren on the importance of prayers and speaking the Word of the Lord. He has been more than happy to hear her story and then help make connections so that others may have the same opportunities as well,” was the official response provided by an aide to Rep. Randy Weber, R-Texas, regarding the extent of his affiliation with the octogenarian activist.
Inquiries posed by HOH to the speaker’s office regarding the likelihood of huddling with Warren, as well as to the office of Rep. Morgan Griffith, R-Va. — whom Warren indicated had filed a formal request on her behalf with the Ohio Republican — garnered no response.
