Tim Ryan Goes ‘Planetary’ (Video)

One of Congress’ foremost messengers on mindfulness is set to lend his voice to an Earth Day after-movie discussion of “Planetary” Wednesday night at the AFI Silver Theater in Silver Spring, Md.

Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, will take a seat alongside National Geographic Society President Gary Knell and Lou Leonard, vice president of the World Wildlife Fund’s climate change program after the screening of the 85-minute documentary about life on Earth. “Planetary” looks like it was born for an Earth Day screening. Press materials describe it as a “visual exploration” combining NASA footage from the Apollo missions of the galaxy, cityscapes of Tokyo and Manhattan and Buddhist monasteries in the Himalayas. Sounds like there’s a whole lot more in-between two, with some environmentally minded talking heads thrown in as well.

Ryan is sponsoring an upcoming May 1 Congressional Yogi Association event on Capitol Hill and is a long time advocate of taking time to chill out. A request to Ryan’s communications director about what the congressman would be discussing (assuming it would likely be the mindfulness/monastery stuff) was not returned. Perhaps further contemplation was needed.
