If you won’t be in the Capitol to watch President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address Tuesday night, fret not. There is no shortage of SOTU watch parties, nor to the range of political spectrums or organizations hosting them. Obama critics have their chance to heckle at Capitol Lounge (229 Pennsylvania Ave. SE) at Generation Opportunity’s second annual SOTU watch party. The event, from 8 to 10 p.m., is free, but please register at Eventbrite .  

Liberals looking for an audience to cheer 44’s new proposals on community college and paid sick leave will find like-minded souls at Network for Progress’ watch party at Local 16 at 1602 U St. NW. Partners include N4P, Generation Obama, Progressive Communicators of DC and the DC Latino Caucus. Hosts will also offer a 2016 straw poll and a suggestion box for the Democratic National Committee. DC Shadow Rep. Franklin Garcia will attend. Register at N4P’s website on Eventbrite or Facebook.  The National Press Club will host what it describes as a “non-partisan atmosphere” for the address in its Reliable Source and Bloomberg Room areas at a free event at its 529 14th St. NW HQ. The Reliable Source will have food and drink specials, and the Bloomberg Room will have a cash bar. It’s sold out, but contact Joan Coyle at jcoyledc@verizon.net for further information, such as whether folks who RSVP’d have since dropped out, creating more space.  

Looking for something else? How about the Louisiana State Society’s King Cake Party? Mardi Gras season has started, after all! At Board Room at 1737 Connecticut Ave. NW. Register at Eventbrite . It’s $30 for guests and $15 for society members. Runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with a “limited” open bar until 7:30 p.m. and drink specials otherwise.  

And, of course, there’s always the Tune Inn, just down the street from the Capitol at 331 Pennsylvania Ave. SE. It’s nothing official or planned out. But previous SOTU viewings there have revealed novel reactions to the chief executive’s speech from assorted firefighters, retirees, sports fans and drunks. Think of it as an amateur focus group.
