The all-GOP lobbying shop Clark Geduldig Cranford & Nielsen is picking up a new energy policy hire with ties to House and Senate Republicans.  

Mike Catanzaro, who previously handled energy and environmental issues for Speaker John A. Boehner, R-Ohio, and once worked as an aide on the Senate Environment and Public Works panel, will join the firm in the coming weeks. Catanzaro worked for incoming Senate Environment and Public Works Chairman James M. Inhofe of Oklahoma, and he’s been with the firm FTI Consulting for more than two years.  

He is joining the Clark Geduldig operation, he said, because “they are one of the premiere Republican lobbying firms in town, just by evidence of their growth over the last eight years.”  

Clark Geduldig has been one of the fastest-growing little shops in recent years, bucking something of a downturn among the biggest outfits on K Street.  

The firm’s clients include financial services, energy and transportation clients. Catanzaro said he plans to bring clients with him, though he declined to name which ones. Lobbying records show that his recent clients include the Devon Energy Production Co. and General Electric Energy Financial Services.  

“We are relentless when it comes to providing value for the businesses we represent,” said firm founder Steve Clark. “Mike has a tremendous track record. We can’t wait to introduce him to our clients.”  

In addition to his Capitol Hill background, Catanzaro also served in the George W. Bush administration. In 2004, he was the Bush-Cheney re-election campaign’s deputy policy director, taking the lead on energy and environmental policy matters. After that, he was associate director for policy on the White House’s Council on Environmental Quality, and he was an associate deputy administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.
At FTI, Catanzaro focused on advising energy companies on regulations and other policies related to the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the National Environmental Policy Act and the Endangered Species Act.
