DCCC Cuts Massachusetts Media Buy (Updated)

Updated 8:37 p.m. | The Democratic House political arm is scrapping plans to spend a substantial sum of money on the Massachusetts 6th District race, but is still investing in the Boston media market on New Hampshire’s two competitive House races, according to a source tracking media buys.

A Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee aide characterized the move as a sign of confidence Democrat Seth Moulton will be able to hold the open seat against Republican Richard Tisei.

The DCCC had more than $1 million reserved in the Boston media market combined between the Massachusetts 6th District and New Hamsphire’s 1st District and 2nd District. The DCCC is cutting $430,000 from the market to shift to other places on the map. The remaining $784,000 will be spent on one or both of the New Hampshire races where Democratic Reps. Carol Shea-Porter and Ann McLane Kuster are in competitive races.

Moulton defeated Democratic Rep. John F. Tierney in the Bay State’s September primary. Tierney struggled with ethics problems and many Democrats suggested after his loss that Moulton is a more viable candidate in the general election.

Republicans maintain that Tisei, a former state senator, is still in the hunt.

The race is rated Tilts Democratic by the Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.

Updated 8:37 p.m. | The Tisei camp brushed off the Democratic claims of confidence.

“Richard has led four out of the last five polls, has double the cash on hand, and is well positioned for the final days of this campaign,” Tisei spokesman Charlie Szold wrote in an email.
