Two new polls showed a duo of House Democrats trailing in competitive races in upstate New York.  

In the Empire State’s 19th District, GOP Rep. Chris Gibson leads his Democratic challenger, venture capitalist Sean Eldridge, by 24 points, according to a Time Warner Cable News/Siena College poll released Thursday.  

North in the 21st District, a similar survey from WWNY-7 News/Siena College showed Republican Elise Stefanik leading Democrat Aaron Woolf by 13 points. 
Woolf and Stefanik are competing to succeed Rep. Bill Owens, D-N.Y., who is retiring.  Democrats must pick up a net of 17 seats to win control of the House — already a difficult challenge in a midterm cycle. But recent public surveys, including these polls, show Democrats could be poised to lose a few seats instead.  

In the survey, Gibson had support from 57 percent of respondents, while Eldridge had the support of 33 percent. Ten percent of those surveyed were undecided. 
The poll interviewed 609 likely voters and had a margin of error of 4 points. The Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call rates the 19th District race as Tilts Republican .  

Stefanik had support from 46 percent of respondents, while 33 percent supported Woolf. Ten percent of respondents supported Green Party candidate Matt Funicello, while 11 percent were undecided. 
The 21st District poll interviewed
 591 likely voters and had a margin of error of 4 points.
