How does a female Democratic candidate in the South distance herself from President Barack Obama? Call on Dad.

Attorney Gwen Graham released a pair of ads Monday morning that did just that. Her father, former Sen. Bob Graham, made her case to voters.

Graham wasn’t the first. Two other candidates, nonprofit executive Michelle Nunn and Sen. Mary L. Landrieu, produced ads featuring their well-known politician fathers.

Here is a look at all three ads:

Bob Graham opens the ad explaining what he calls a “workday,” when he would spend a day in the shoes of constituents. The narrator later ties in Gwen Graham, noting that workdays are “a Graham tradition his daughter carries on today.”

According to a campaign spokesman, the campaign is spending a “substantial” amount on areas that include the Panama City and Tallahassee television markets, including broadcast. Graham is challenging Republican Rep. Steve Southerland II in a race rated Tossup/Tilts Republican by the Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.

At the end of the spot, the candidate says, “I’m Gwen Graham, and Dad and I approve this message.”

The elder Graham tags it, “We sure do.”

Georgia Senate: Michelle Nunn, daughter of former Sen. Sam Nunn
In an early campaign ad, one of Nunn’s first biographical spots leads with a photo of Sam Nunn playing basketball as an adolescent. The younger Nunn says she also played basketball, but the former Points of Light Foundation CEO notes she didn’t immediately follow him into politics.

The former senator appears at the end of the spot holding a basketball.

“And I think you’ve got a pretty good shot!” he said.

Nunn is running in the open-seat race to replace retiring Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss. The race is rated Favored Republican by the Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.

Louisiana Senate: Sen. Mary L. Landrieu, daughter of former New Orleans Mayor Moon Landrieu

Moon Landrieu makes the case for his daughter by arguing her stubbornness makes her an effective senator.

“Now you know why Putin won’t let her into Russia,” the elder Landrieu whispers.

Landrieu is running for a fourth term. The race is rated Tossup by the Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
