Mississippi state Sen. Chris McDaniel launched his first TV ad of the Republican Senate primary runoff on Tuesday.  

The challenger to six-term Sen. Thad Cochran finished some 1,400 votes ahead in the June 3 primary, but he did not win the majority of votes necessary to avoid the June 24 runoff.  

In his first ad of the extended race, McDaniel is called “a proven conservative leader with an agenda for Mississippi,” which includes repealing the Affordable Care Act, reducing the federal debt, cutting taxes and implementing term limits “for all our politicians.” www.youtube.com/watch?v=0i2WpoxJmHs  

The McDaniel campaign said the ad is backed by a “significant purchase” and is running statewide on broadcast and cable.  

The Cochran campaign has so far taken advantage of the extra three weeks by pursuing a renewed emphasis on retail politicking and shining a more intense spotlight on specific examples of how Cochran’s influence on Capitol Hill has made a difference in the daily lives of Mississippians.  

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., have taken leadership roles in helping Cochran replenish his war chest for the final two weeks of the race, and other allies in Washington and Mississippi are activating their own networks to help raise money and get out the vote.
