New Benghazi Committee Amounts to ‘Full Neutering’ of Issa, Democrat Says

House Democratic Caucus Vice Chairman Joseph Crowley has a take on what the creation of the Benghazi Committee means for House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Darrell Issa — and his verb of choice is one that Bob Barker might approve of.

“This is the full neutering — a full neutering! — of Chairman Issa and his 16 months of work,” Crowley said Wednesday.

Crowley said Issa’s “neutering” was one of the stories being missed right now. (For the record, Roll Call wrote about Minority Whip Steny H. Hoyer’s claim on Monday that the Benghazi Committee was a rebuke of Issa .) And Crowley said the American people are tired of the politics surrounding Benghazi.

“Nothing new will come of this,” he said of the investigation. Crowley explained that there was no indication the select committee would act, or have any authority, different from Issa’s committee, and the New York Democrat openly wondered what the difference would be from earlier investigations into the Sept. 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

“What assurances can the speaker give to these families,” Crowley asked, “that this will not become, once again, a political charade and a circus that far too many of these investigative committees have become: overly politicized, overly partisan, and without any regard for the families and the victims themselves and their memories?”
