Tea Party Groups Get Almost $8 Million in Contributions

Two national tea party organizations have reported receiving a combined total of almost $8 million in contributions during the last six months of 2013.  

Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund,  a super PAC, reported  to the Federal Election Commission they had receipts of $4,338,272 and disbursements of $3,897,291 during the last six months of 2013, leaving $1,069,925 cash on hand at the end of the year. The PAC raised $2,988,761 from donors giving $200 or less. Texas and California provided the most money from itemized donors.  

The major donor was  Cary Katz (CEO, College Loan Corp., NV), who gave $50,000. The PAC spent heavily on direct mail, list rental, and mailings. The PAC paid Integram (VA) $787,970 for direct mail; and Strategic Fundraising (MN) $774,367 for list rental; among others.  

Our Country Deserves Better PAC -TeaPartyExpress.org  reported  they had receipts of $3,823,887 and disbursements of $3,603,765 during the last six months of 2013, leaving $1,102,150 cash on hand at the end of the year. The PAC raised $3,064,991 from donors giving $200 or less. The states with the most itemized contributions were Texas and California.  

The PAC spent heavily on fundraising, telemarketing and mailings. The PAC paid Russo Marsh & Associates $1.2 million for fundraising expenses.  

Update 2/5:  The Tea Party Leadership Fund  reported  receipts of $1,817,659 and disbursements of $1,648,598 during the fourth quarter, leaving $379,936 cash on hand.
