Speaker John A. Boehner has tapped Kelly F. Craven, staff director of the House Administration Committee, as his new director of House Operations.

Craven toured the House side of the Capitol with her predecessor, newly appointed House Chief Administrative Officer Ed Cassidy, during a Friday morning vote series. Craven shook hands and made some introductions, though she is no newbie to the institution.

“Kelly Craven is a dedicated, experienced public servant and longtime friend of our team,” Boehner said in a statement. “I’m proud to — officially — welcome her to the Speaker’s Office as our Director of House Operations.”

Prior to her year of service on the House Administration Committee, Craven served as assistant director of the House Office of Interparliamentary Affairs. She was a once chief of staff for Rep. Steve Buyer, R-Ind., and also served as deputy staff director for the House Veterans Affairs Committee, which Buyer used to chair. Craven previously worked under President George W. Bush as a deputy assistant secretary of the Air Force.

Her career also includes a stint as a fifth grade teacher at St. James Catholic School in Falls Church, Va.

Cassidy, House Clerk Karen Haas and House Sergeant-at-Arms Paul D. Irving will report to Craven in her new role.

Lauding her service in the legislative and executive branch, Cassidy called Craven a “real asset to the institution” who will play a “really key role” in Boehnerland.
