Nebraska Republican to Make TV Buy During BCS Game

Midland University President Ben Sasse has scheduled airtime on Jan. 6 during the Bowl Championship Series game between Auburn University and Florida State University, according to multiple sources who track media buys.

The buy is worth about $8,500.

Sasse is running in the competitive GOP primary to succeed retiring Sen. Mike Johanns, R-Neb. Sasse will face off against bank president Sid Dinsdale, attorney Bart McLeay and former state Treasurer Shane Osborn on May 13.

Last cycle, Sasse’s media consultant, Fred Davis, produced a controversial ad that ran during the Super Bowl. The spot for former Rep. Pete Hoekstra was deemed racially insensitive, and the Michigan Republican’s Senate campaign never fully recovered.

The Nebraska Senate race is rated Safe Republican by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
