Both RNC and DNC Raise $7 Million in September, but DNC Still in Debt

The two national party campaign committees each raised over $7 million during September, with the DNC having its best fundraising month of the year, but still reporting $17 million in debts.

The DNC Services Corp./Democratic National Committee reported it had receipts of $7,434,921 and disbursements of $5,563,574 during September, leaving $5,505,469 cash on hand as of 9/30, with $17,450,506 in debts. The committee has raised $47 million this year.

The committee raised $3 million from contributors giving $200 or less, and itemized over $4 million from donors giving over $200. Itemized contributors from New York gave $1,024,127, and those from California gave $728,868. PACs and other committees gave $190,909.

Major donors included $64,800 from Sara Williams (interior design, Medium Inc., CA)(“redesignated in October”); $40,000 from Faith Gay (attorney, Quinn Emanuel, NY); $10,000 from Joan Cooney (co-founder, Sesame Street Workshop, NY); $10,000 from Susan Povich (Red Hook Lobster, NY); Hillary Rosen (consultant, DC); $10,000 from Barbra Streisand (entertainer, CA); $34,388 from Roger Casterline (retired, CA); and $30,000 from Laura Ricketts (president, Ecotravel, IL); among others.

The committee repaid $400,000 on outstanding loans; spent $915,735 on direct mail; spent $506,292 on telemarketing; spent $470,099 on salaries; spent $190,909 renting a list from Obama for America; among other expenses. The committee transferred $766,051 to other party committees.

The Republican National Committee reported it had receipts of $7,145,074 and disbursements of $8,411,426 during September, leaving $11,243,830 cash on hand as of 9/30. The committee raised $2.6 million from contributors giving $200 or less, and itemized over $ million from contributors giving more than $200. Itemized contributors from Texas gave $673,256, and those from New York gave $602,972. California donors gave $503,566.

Donors included $32,400 from Charles Schwab (CEO, Charles Schwab Corp, CA); $32,400 from Stephen Wynn (CEO, Wynn Resorts, NV); $32,400 from Andrea Wynn (owner, Wynn Resorts, NV); $32,400 from A. Ballard (Ballard Exploration, TX); $32,400 from Brian France (chairman, NASCAR, FL); $32,400 from Matthew Rose (CEO, BNSF, TX); $32,400 from Gregg Engles (CEO, Dean Foods, CO); $32,400 from Ronnie Heyman (chairman, G.A.F Industries, NY); among others.

The committee spent $1.3 million on postage; $1,232,571 on mail production services; $1.2 million on telemarketing; $794,099 on payroll; $75,809 on legal and compliance services; among other expenses.
