Rep. John Lewis’ debut graphic novel, “March,” is a bona fide hit, landing in the top spot on multiple best-seller lists — including the coveted Gray Lady’s.

The book is currently No. 1 on The New York Times best-seller list for paperback graphic novels and leads The Washington Post’s entire nonfiction section.

The critically acclaimed comic, which the Georgia Democrat shared with the animation-obsessed at this year’s Comic-Con, chronicles his devotion to the philosophy of nonviolence opposition and how he put it into practice during the civil rights movement.

Top Shelf Productions publicist Leigh Walton said online retailer Amazon has almost exhausted its entire stock of Volume One of Lewis’ three-part story — additional installments will hit retail shelves in 2014 and 2015, respectively — and is in the process of replenishing its stores.

“We are well on our way through the first printing,” Walton told HOH. “It’s a great sign.”

The promotional tour kicks into high gear locally next month.

Lewis will host discussions and signings of “March,” which he co-wrote with Andrew Aydin, his telecommunications aide, all over town this September, including stops at:

• Sept. 8: book reading and signing at Politics and Prose; 4 p.m.
• Sept. 14: special guest appearance at Small Press Expo in Bethesda, Md.; 1 p.m.
• Sept. 18: featured guest for the “Civil Rights Superhero” program, part of a Newseum exhibit commemorating student activism and civil rights; 7:15 p.m.
• Sept. 19: hosting “Where Do We Go From Here? Fifty Years After the March” (room 145-B) at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 43rd annual legislative conference; 2-4 p.m.

And he will, of course, at some point need to firm up his plans for Comic-Con 2014.
