Area 51 Neighbors Provide Over $100,000 in Political Contributions

Since 1980, more than $100,000 in political contributions have come out of the ZIP code near Area 51. They appear to be contributions from individual people and should be U.S. citizens.

The ZIP code 89001 covers Rachel, Nev., and Alamo, Nev., near Area 51, the government’s facility in the Mojave Desert. The Area 51 facility was confirmed in declassified CIA documents posted on the Internet this week. A review of federal political contributions of more than $200 from that ZIP code to federal candidates and committees shows $102,039 given since 1980.

The major donor was William C. Anton, chairman of Anton Aircool Inc., an airport food service company, who gave $98,000 to the National Republican Senatorial Committee from 2003 to 2007. Another donor, De Wayne Davis (retired USAF), gave $1,115 to the 2012 presidential campaign of Ron Paul, R-Texas. Others have given to GOP U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle of Nevada; former Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind.; the Democratic National Committee; the Conservative Majority Fund; the National Republican Congressional Committee; and 1984 Democratic House candidate Peggy Westall of Nevada.
