Several live streaming events of note today, including at 9:30 AM ET, when Joint Chiefs Chairman GEN Dempsey and Vice Chairman ADM Winnefeld reconfirmation hearing occurs before SASC. Watch here. Army Times previews: “There is no shortage of issues on which senators intend to press America’s top military officer Thursday during a session likely to include some fireworks.”

“Senate Armed Services Committee members say they expect to get some answers from Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey and Vice Chairman Adm. James Winnefeld on a range of national security issues that have garnered headlines in recent months.”

“Policy and budget issues likely will dominate the confirmation hearing. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., tells Military Times sister publication Defense News he intends to zero in on Dempsey’s ‘judgment’ and the quality of the advice he gives to the commander in chief.”

Also, the Aspen Security Forum continues today. Top choices: Dr. Ashton B. Carter, Deputy Secretary of Defense on “Doing More with Less—Simply an Oxymoron or Also an Imperative: Refashioning Today’s Pentagon to Fight the Wars of the Future,” and Gen. Other notables: “Counterterrorism, National Security, and the Rule of Law” and “MANHUNT: The Search for Osama Bin Laden: This session will feature an excerpted screening of the acclaimed HBO documentary, MANHUNT, based on the book of the same name by noted terrorism expert and CNN national security analyst Peter Bergen. Bergen, and the film’s director and producer, Greg Barker, will discuss the film and the story it tells.”
