Fundraising Roundup: Smaller Sums Trickle In as Filing Deadline Approaches
Members continued to release impressive fundraising numbers as the final full week to report second-quarter fundraising drew to a close, but the stragglers have not been as impressive as the early birds.
Both House and Senate candidates have raised the bar as to what constitutes an eye-catching quarterly fundraising total, but history dictates that members who release their reports toward the end of the filing deadline usually have lower hauls to report. That rung true for some reported totals.
Check out Friday’s fundraising numbers:
Senate
- #GASEN: Republican Rep. Jack Kingston announced that he raised $800,000 in the second quarter for his senatorial primary bid against a crowded field of his fellow House colleagues. The haul brings his total cash on hand to $2.3 million, according to the Georgia Tipsheet blog. The Tipsheet also reports that fellow Republican Rep. Paul Broun raised a paltry $385,000 for his Senate bid.
- #KYSEN: Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., raised $2.3 million and has $6.9 million in cash on hand for his Senate bid.
- #SDSEN: Democratic Senate candidate Rick Weiland raised $205,000 in the second quarter, including a $100,000 personal loan to his campaign, bringing his cash on hand to $195,000 at the end of the second quarter, according to the Argus Leader.
House
- #AKAL: Republican Rep. Don Young raised the smallest sum we’ve seen so far at $62,000 in the second quarter. Young has more than $515,000 in cash on hand, according to his fundraising report.
- #AZ02: Democratic Rep. Ron Barber raised $293,000 in the second quarter and he will report having $550,000 in cash on hand for his rematch with Republican Martha McSally, a retired Air Force colonel.
- #CA26: Republican Tony Strickland raised nearly $330,000 in the second quarter for his bid against Democratic Rep. Julia Brownley. The haul brings his total cash on hand to nearly $340,000, according to his campaign. Strickland ran an unsuccessful campaign against Brownley in 2012.
- #IL13: Former judge Ann Callis, a top Democratic recruit, raised $225,000 in the second quarter, and has $200,000 in cash on hand, according to her campaign.
- #MO02: Republican Rep. Ann Wagner raised more than $450,000 in the second quarter, and has more than $750,000 in cash on hand, according to Wagner’s campaign.
