In the Aftermath of a Massive Tornado

In the late afternoon of May 20, many Oklahomans emerged from underground shelters, bathtubs and hallways to the destruction around them.

While the situation was overwhelming to many, people across the state and the country quickly mobilized to provide much needed support. The first step was to assess the damage and see where help was most needed.

Among the first to receive a call for help was the all-volunteer Civil Air Patrol Oklahoma Wing. The team immediately left their families to fly over the path of the EF-5 tornado and pictorially document the destruction.
