Rick Santorum, From AFI Docs to EchoLight Studios

Former Sen. Rick Santorum is on quite a roll.

Just as AJ Schnack’s documentary “Caucus” — which zeroed in on the 2012 GOP Iowa caucuses and featured Santorum prominently — wrapped up last weekend’s AFI Docs presented by Audi documentary film festival, the Pennsylvania Republican is going from film subject to filmmaker.

Santorum is trodding into the role of movie mogul by becoming CEO of EchoLight Studios, a religion-based movie company.

It will be interesting to see if Motion Picture Association of America President Christopher Dodd, Santorum’s former colleague in the Senate, decides to haze the new player by slapping an NC-17 on any of EchoLight’s fare, just to kind of mess with him.

The movie biz isn’t for the faint of heart, and sometimes the transition from one profession to another has a few bumps.

Good luck, senator!
